The town is situated along U.S. Route 231. This road is about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of where it crosses Interstate 10. Following US 231, Cottondale is about 7 miles (11 km) north. Panama City is about 44 miles (71 km) to the south-southwest.

History of Alford
Alford was settled in the early 1900s. It officially became an incorporated town in 1959. This means it gained its own local government.
