Early Life and College Football
Alfred D. Jenkins was born on April 1, 1964. He grew up in Lynwood, California, and went to Lynwood High School.
After high school, Alfred went to the University of Arizona. He played college football for the Arizona Wildcats team. In his first year, 1982, he "redshirted," which means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his college playing time.
From 1983 to 1986, Alfred was a key player for the Wildcats. He threw for many yards and touchdowns. In 1984, he led the Pac-10 Conference in passes attempted, passing yards, and interceptions. He also scored touchdowns by running the ball himself.
Professional Football Career
Alfred Jenkins was chosen by the Washington Redskins in the 1987 NFL draft. This is when NFL teams pick new players from college. He was picked in the ninth round. He was later placed on injured reserve, meaning he couldn't play due to an injury. He was released from the team in October 1987.
In 1988, Alfred played one game for the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The CFL is a professional football league in Canada.
Alfred then played for the Dallas Texans in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 1991. The AFL is a type of indoor football played on a smaller field. He played in all ten games that season. He threw for 1,428 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also ran for four touchdowns. The Dallas Texans finished their season with four wins and six losses.
