How Algarrobo is Governed

Algarrobo is a commune, which is a local administrative area in Chile. It's managed by a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen by the people in an election every four years.

From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde of Algarrobo was Jorge Luis Pizarro Romero. The municipal council helps the alcalde make decisions for the community.

Algarrobo is also part of larger areas that choose national leaders.

  • In the Chamber of Deputies (one part of Chile's national government), Algarrobo is represented by María José Hoffmann and Víctor Torres.
  • In the Senate (the other part of Chile's national government), Algarrobo is represented by Francisco Chahuán Chahuán and Ricardo Lagos Weber.

These representatives help make laws and decisions for the whole country, including Algarrobo.
