Alitha E. Martinez is an American comic book artist. She is well-known for her amazing work on comics like Marvel's Iron Man and the Heroes webcomics. She also worked on DC Comics' Batgirl. Throughout her career, Alitha has created art for many big comic book companies. These include Marvel, DC Comics, Image Comics, and Archie Comics.

Alitha Martinez's Career in Comics
Early Steps in Art
Alitha Martinez studied at the School of Visual Arts in the mid-1990s. She has shared that it was sometimes challenging. She was often the only female student in her cartooning classes.
For several years in the late 1990s, Martinez worked as an assistant. She helped other artists by drawing backgrounds and inking their work. Her first known comic book art was in the series Cable in 1993.
Big Break with Iron Man
Alitha considers 1999 her big moment in comics. She was working as an assistant to Marvel editor Joe Quesada. Because of this connection, she became the main artist for the Iron Man comic book. She worked on this popular series for most of 2000 and 2001.
Webcomics and DC Comics
After working on various short projects, Martinez became a regular artist for the Heroes webcomics. These webcomics were made in 2008 and 2009. They added more stories to the popular television show.
Later, Alitha moved to DC Comics. She helped create a new villain named Knightfall. This character first appeared in Batgirl #10 in August 2012.
Recent Comic Book Projects
In recent years, Alitha Martinez has helped create artwork for many comics. She drew cover art for a special issue of Riverdale by Archie Comics.
She also drew most of the first five issues of World of Wakanda. This comic is a spin-off from Marvel Comics' Black Panther series. It was mainly written by Roxane Gay.
In 2017, she was a guest artist for the Lazarus X+66 series from Image Comics. This series was written by Greg Rucka. She also worked on five issues of Marvel Comics' Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
In 2019, Martinez launched a new series called Omni. She worked on this with writer Devin K. Grayson for Humanoids Publishing.
Art Exhibits and Teaching
In 2020, Alitha Martinez's art was part of an exhibit. It was called Women in Comics: Looking Forward, Looking Back. This show was held at the Society of Illustrators in New York City.
