What is Allerton Ward?
A ward is like a local neighbourhood or district. It's a way to divide a city into smaller parts. Each ward gets to choose people called councillors. These councillors speak for the people living in their ward at the city council. They help make decisions about local services like parks, schools, and rubbish collection.
Allerton ward was first created in 1920. Over the years, its borders have changed a few times. This happens to make sure each ward has a fair number of people.
How the Ward Boundaries Changed
The boundaries of Allerton ward have been updated several times. This is usually done by a group called the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. They make sure that each ward has a similar number of voters.
1953 Boundaries
The first big change to the ward's shape happened in 1953.
1980 Boundaries
In 1980, the ward's borders changed again. A report from 1978 suggested these changes. The goal was to keep 99 councillors for Liverpool, spread across 33 wards.
2004 Boundaries
For the 2004 election, the ward was renamed Allerton and Hunts Cross. It kept most of its old area but lost some parts, like the area around Calderstones Park. It also gained some new areas. The population of this larger ward was about 15,240 people in 2021.
2023 Boundaries
In 2022, there was another review of the ward boundaries. This time, Liverpool decided to have 64 wards instead of 30. The new Allerton ward is smaller than before. It now has one councillor instead of three. Its new borders follow streets like Rose Lane, Booker Avenue, and Menlove Avenue.
Who are the Councillors?
Councillors are elected by people living in the ward. They represent the ward's interests in the city council. The table below shows some of the councillors who have represented Allerton ward over the years.
