Alma is a small city located in Lafayette County, Missouri, in the United States. It's part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area. In 2020, about 400 people lived there.

A Look Back at Alma's History

Alma started as a town in 1879. This was when the railroad reached that area, making it a good spot for a community. A post office opened in Alma the same year. The city was named after Alma Woodson. She was the daughter of one of the people who helped create the town.

Schools in Alma

Alma is proud to be home to Santa Fe High School. The school's sports teams are known as the Chiefs. In 2000, the Chiefs football team won the Missouri Class 1A state championship. They defeated St. Vincent with a score of 12–0. The Chiefs baseball team also had great success. They won the Missouri Class 1A State baseball title in both May 2008 and 2012. The year before, they had placed fourth in the state.

Another school in Alma is Trinity Lutheran School. This is an elementary school connected with Trinity Lutheran Church. It is an accredited LCMS school. After graduating from Trinity, most students go on to Santa Fe High School. Some students might choose to attend St Paul Lutheran High in Concordia or other local public high schools. Trinity's sports teams are called the Tigers.
