According to the 2020 census, about 2,994 people lived in Fraser Township. It is part of the larger Bay City area.

Communities in Fraser Township

Fraser Township includes a few smaller areas that are not officially separate towns. These are called unincorporated communities.

  • Almeda Beach is a community found near the shoreline of Saginaw Bay. It is about 584 feet (178 meters) above sea level.
  • Linwood is a community located right on the border with Kawkawlin Township.
  • Meyers Beach is another community near the Saginaw Bay shoreline. It is also about 584 feet (178 meters) above sea level.

History of Fraser Township

The history of Fraser Township includes several post offices that served the area a long time ago.

The Maxwell Post Office first opened on June 24, 1875. It closed five years later in 1880. It reopened later that year on December 20, 1880, under a new name, Michie. This post office was located on State Road.

Later, on March 25, 1892, the Lengsville Post Office started operating. The Tebo Post Office also began serving the area on June 6, 1898.

However, these post offices eventually closed. Tebo Post Office closed on May 31, 1904, and Michie Post Office closed on October 15, 1904. The Lengsville Post Office closed on March 31, 1911.

Geography of Fraser Township

Fraser Township is located on the western shore of Lake Huron's Saginaw Bay. This means it has a beautiful waterfront area. It is in the northern part of Bay County.

The United States Census Bureau reports that the township covers a total area of about 39.4 square miles (102.0 square kilometers). Of this, about 32.4 square miles (84.0 square kilometers) is land. The remaining 6.9 square miles (18.0 square kilometers), or about 17.68%, is water.

As of the census in 2000, there were 3,375 people living in Fraser Township. These people lived in 1,292 households, with 1,003 of these being families.

The average household in Fraser Township had about 2.61 people. The average family had about 2.97 people.

The population was made up of people of different ages. About 23.9% of the people were under 18 years old. About 11.9% were 65 years old or older. The median age, which is the middle age of all the people, was 39 years.
