Almirante Sur is a neighborhood, also called a barrio, located in the town of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 3,115 people lived there.
History of Almirante Sur
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a special area connected to the U.S., but not a state.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 847 people lived in the Almirante Sur neighborhood at that time. The population has grown quite a bit since then!
