Almondo Sewell (born January 16, 1987) is a former American gridiron football player. He played as a defensive tackle, which is a strong player who tries to stop the other team from running with the ball. He also worked as a defensive line coach for the Edmonton Elks in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Almondo played college football at the University of Akron. He also played for teams like the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes in the CFL. He was also part of the Cleveland Gladiators in the Arena Football League (AFL).

Almondo Sewell's Football Journey
Starting His Pro Career
Almondo Sewell began his professional journey with the Edmonton Eskimos in May 2011. He played in a few games before being released later that year.
In 2012, Almondo spent some time playing for the Cleveland Gladiators in the Arena Football League.
Back with the Edmonton Eskimos
Sewell rejoined the Eskimos in June 2012. He quickly became one of the best defensive players in the league. He was chosen as a CFL All-Star five times in a row, from 2013 to 2017. He was also named a CFL West All-Star six times in a row, from 2012 to 2017.
During his nine years with Edmonton, Almondo made 282 tackles and 60 sacks. He played in 139 regular season games. He was a CFL All-Star six times and a divisional All-Star seven times. In 2015, he helped the Eskimos win the 103rd Grey Cup, which is the championship game of the CFL.
Playing for the Montreal Alouettes
In February 2021, Almondo Sewell signed with the Montreal Alouettes. He played in all 14 regular season games that year. He made 19 defensive tackles and had five sacks.
In 2023, Sewell played in 16 regular season games. He made 14 defensive tackles and had one sack. He then played in his second Grey Cup game, the 110th Grey Cup. His team, the Alouettes, won the championship against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Almondo had two defensive tackles in that big win. He was released by the Alouettes in February 2024.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Almondo Sewell became a coach. In July 2024, he was named the defensive line coach for the Edmonton Elks. This means he helped train the defensive linemen on the team. He was not kept on the coaching staff in 2025 after some changes.
Personal Life
Almondo Sewell has a pet rabbit named Dusko. He has also shared that he plans to join the Edmonton Police Service after his football career.
