He was a defensive tackle in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for teams like the Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes. Before turning pro, he played college football at the University of Akron.

Almondo Sewell's Football Journey
Early Life and College Years
Almondo Sewell was born in Buff Bay, Jamaica. He went to Hargrave Military Academy before moving to Trenton Central High School in Trenton, New Jersey.
Sewell played college football for the Akron Zips at the University of Akron. He was a key player for four years, from 2007 to 2010.
Professional Playing Career
First Time with the Edmonton Eskimos
Sewell first joined the Edmonton Eskimos on May 27, 2011. He played in three games before leaving the team later that year.
Playing for the Cleveland Gladiators
In 2012, Almondo Sewell played for the Cleveland Gladiators. This team was part of the Arena Football League (AFL).
Return to the Edmonton Eskimos
Sewell rejoined the Eskimos on June 4, 2012. He quickly became one of the best defensive linemen in the CFL. He was named a CFL All-Star five years in a row, from 2013 to 2017. He also earned the CFL West All-Star title six years in a row, from 2012 to 2017.
During his nine years with Edmonton, Sewell played in 139 regular season games. He made 282 tackles and 60 sacks. He was named a CFL All-Star six times and a divisional All-Star seven times.
Time with the Montreal Alouettes
On February 9, 2021, Sewell signed with the Montreal Alouettes. In his first year, he played in all 14 regular season games. He made 19 defensive tackles and five sacks.
In 2023, Sewell played in 16 regular season games. He had 14 defensive tackles and one sack. He also played in his second Grey Cup game, which is like the championship game in the CFL. His team won the 110th Grey Cup against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Sewell made two defensive tackles in that big win. He left the Alouettes on February 8, 2024.
Coaching Career
On July 16, 2024, Almondo Sewell became the defensive line coach for the Edmonton Elks. This happened after the previous coach, Nate O'Neal, resigned.
Personal Life
Almondo Sewell has a pet rabbit named Dusko. In 2015, he shared that he hoped to join the Edmonton Police Service after his football career ended.
