Aloo Chop (Bengali: আলুর চপ, Odia: ଆଳୁ ଚପ Angika : आलूर चौप) a snack originating from the Indian subcontinent made out of boiled potatoes and various spices. It is available widely in the Indian states of Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, and in Bangladesh. "Aloo" means potato, and the word "chop" means a small cutlet fritters or croquette in Bengali. It is served hot and warm along with muri (puffed rice), green chilies, and sometimes sauce and salads. It is a vegetarian alternative, and an equivalent of aloo tikki.

Variations

In West Bengal there are many types of Aloor Chop. The process of its making and its Ingredient make it different.

  1. Panskurar Chop, Batter made with Khasarir Dal besan.
  2. Kolkata style aloor Chop Batter made with Cholar Dal besan and rice flour.
  3. Maldaia aloor Chop Batter made with corn flour, maida etc.
  4. Santali aloor Chop Made with Mete aloo, large amount of chilies. Found in Bankura Purulia. Served with wet Puffed rice mixed with mustard oil, chilies, onion.
  5. Aloo Bomb Big size Chop.
