Amaru Marka Wasi is an ancient archaeological site in Peru. It is also known by several other names, including Amarumarcahuasi and Templo de la Luna (meaning "Temple of the Moon"). The name "Amaru Marka Wasi" comes from the Quechua language. In Quechua, amaru means "snake," marka means "village," and wasi means "house." So, the name roughly translates to "House of the Snake Village."
This important site is located in the Cusco Region, near the city of Cusco. It sits north of the city, east of the famous Sacsayhuamán site, and south of Tambomachay and Puka Pukara. It is also close to another well-known site called Qenko.
Historians believe Amaru Marka Wasi might have been the home of Amaru Yupanqui. He was also known as Amaro Tupac. Amaru Yupanqui was the oldest son of Pachakutiq Inka Yupanki, a very powerful Inca ruler. Pachakutiq was a key figure who helped expand the Inca Empire into a vast and impressive civilization.
