Early Life and Talents
Amy Linnéa Deasismont was born in Norrköping, Sweden. Her father is English and her mother is Swedish. When she was ten months old, her family moved to the UK. They moved back to Sweden when she was four-and-a-half years old, settling in Jönköping. Amy has an older sister and four younger siblings.
Amy started figure skating at age six. She won many gold medals and practiced six times a week. Later, she focused on her singing career. She also went to a dance and theater school called Blandgodis. This gave her experience performing in public and on TV. She even had a small role in the TV show De drabbade.
Amy's Music Journey
Amy has loved singing since she was very young. One of her first public performances was at age seven. She appeared on a talent show called Småstjärnorna. She dressed as Belinda Carlisle and lip-synced to "Heaven is a Place on Earth". She finished third in the competition.
In 2004, Amy entered more talent shows, like Minimelodifestivalen and Super Troupers. She won most of them. On Mix Megapol Summer Idol, she won the top prize: recording a song in a real studio. While recording, she was offered a professional recording contract. Soon after, she recorded her first song, "What's in It for Me". One of the songwriters said she sang perfectly. The song was recorded in just ninety minutes and released in February 2005.
Becoming a Star Singer
"What's in It for Me" became very popular. Some Swedish TV stations did not show the music video. They thought Amy was too young for the song's theme. Amy, who turned 13 soon after, saw the song as being about friendships, not romantic relationships. Even without the video, the song was played a lot on the radio. She also went on tour with Elin Lanto. "What's in It for Me" reached number one on the Swedish singles chart in March 2005. It eventually sold enough copies to go platinum.
Amy then appeared on Swedish TV4, using her artist name for the first time. She sang her single and Alicia Keys' song "If I Ain't Got You" with a live band.

Because her single was so successful, a full album was made. This Is Me Now was released in May 2005. The album sold over 150,000 copies. This was three times the amount needed for a gold record in Sweden. Her success led to many TV appearances. She was on shows like Trackslistan and Vi i femman. By the end of 2005, she had performed live on more than 20 TV shows. She also had a concert tour in Sweden that summer.
Amy's fans are mostly school children, but her album is not just for kids. The music on This Is Me Now is mostly happy pop music. It also includes the song "Tomorrow" from the musical Annie. The songs were created by the producer team Tysper, Mack, and Grizzly from Stockholm. They have also produced songs for other popular artists. Amy's albums were released through Bonnier Amigo Music Group.
Amy is a very good live singer and does not lip-sync. Her first album included a live version of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You". A review called it "sweet and impressive". She reached the finals of Super Troupers by singing Shakira's "Underneath Your Clothes" when she was 12. Critics have praised her voice as "fine and secure".
International Success
Amy signed a deal with Warner in July 2005 to share her music worldwide. She started performing with background tracks and dancers instead of a live band. Her album became popular in other Nordic countries and Poland. "What's in It for Me" was played often on the radio. It was one of the most played songs in Finland and Poland in 2005. More songs from the album, "Welcome to the City" and "Champion", were released as singles.
A special version of her album was released for Central Europe. It had two new songs that later appeared on her next album, Still Me Still Now. Amy went on a promotional tour across Central Europe in late 2005. Her record deal allowed her whole family to travel with her when she performed abroad. She performed on TV in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, and the Netherlands.
Amy was nominated for many awards in 2005. At 13, she was the youngest person to win the Nordic Music Award for "What's in It for Me". She was also the youngest artist to win two NRJ Radio Awards at the same time. She was the youngest to be nominated for the Swedish Grammy Awards. At the Grammys, she won Best Swedish Female Artist, Song of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year. She also received a Nickelodeon award for Hit of the Year. In 2010, she won the award for best Swedish music/group at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards again.
Second Album: Still Me Still Now
Amy started recording her second album in February 2006. Her producers sent her songs, and she chose which ones to include. The album was recorded over four weekends.
The album Still Me Still Now was released in May 2006. The first single, "Don't Cry Your Heart Out", came out a few weeks before the album. Two days before the album's release, Amy was interviewed on a morning TV show. The host surprised her with a gold record for the album. It had already sold enough copies from pre-orders to be certified gold. "Don't Cry Your Heart Out" was a radio hit in Sweden.
Still Me Still Now had a similar light-pop style to her first album. Songs like "Don't Cry Your Heart Out" were radio-friendly pop. Other songs, like "Diamonds", sounded like they could be from musicals. Amy's voice was praised, even though some wondered about the song choices.
In mid-2006, Amy joined the Diggiloo tour. She performed songs like Edith Piaf's "Non, je ne regrette rien". While Still Me Still Now was not as big internationally as her first album, it was still very popular in Sweden. She also held other concerts. Readers of the newspaper Aftonbladet voted her the 2006 Summer Tour Queen. She released two more singles in late 2006: "Big Guns" and "It Can Only Get Better". She continued to appear on TV shows. In January 2007, she started a fan club that published a magazine called Amy Diamond Fanzine.
Third Album: Music in Motion
Amy recorded her third album, Music in Motion, in the second half of 2007. This album included songs by famous producers like Max Martin.
The first song from the album, "Is It Love?", was released on September 26, 2007. She performed it on TV shows and won "Best Female Artist" at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. The album came out on November 28, 2007. Her second single, "Stay My Baby", was released on November 23.
Amy entered Melodifestivalen in February 2008. This is the Swedish competition to choose a song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song was "Thank You". She finished 8th in the final round. The song was later added to a new version of her album, called Music in Motion – Gold Edition. Amy received another gold record for this album.
Christmas Album
On November 19, 2008, Amy released a Christmas album called En Helt Ny Jul ("A Brand New Christmas"). It has traditional Swedish Christmas songs. It is a classic style Christmas album with some pop elements. This was her first album sung completely in Swedish. The album also went Gold.
Melodifestivalen 2009 and Fifth Album
In December 2008, it was confirmed that Amy would compete in Melodifestivalen again in 2009. Her song was "It's My Life". On February 14, 2009, she competed in the second semi-final. She did not reach the final round.
Her fifth album, Swings and Roundabouts, was released in Scandinavia on October 21. It included the songs "It's My Life", "Up", "Brand New Day", and "Bittersweet". This album also reached Gold status.
Amy was one of seven celebrity choir leaders on the Swedish TV4 show Körslaget ("Clash of the Choirs"). She led a choir team from her hometown of Jönköping.
From December 2009 to March 2010, she played Alice in Alice in Wonderland at a theater in Stockholm. She also voiced Princess Lillifee in the Swedish version of the film Princess Lillifee. She sang some songs in the movie too.
Greatest Hits Album
In spring 2010, Amy's music label announced a greatest hits album. The album has twenty songs from her past four years. It also includes four new songs. These new songs are covers of "True Colors" by Cyndi Lauper, "Only You" by Yazoo, and "Perfect" by Fairground Attraction. The album was released on October 29, 2010. On October 31, it was confirmed that she was the youngest Swedish artist to release a greatest hits album.
The first new song released from the album was "Only You" on September 24, 2010. On October 16, 2010, Amy sang a duet version of "True Colors" with Mikael Rickfors on a Swedish TV show. She also performed "Only You" and "True Colors" on XL Live. She sang an acoustic version of "What's in It for Me" on a radio show.
New Music
At the end of 2012, Amy started working on new music. For the first time, she wrote most of the songs herself. Her new song "Your Love" was released on October 16, 2013.
In May 2016, Amy released a new song called "One" under her real name, Amy Deasismont. In August, she released "Forgive". She has also released a third song called "This is How We Party".
Life Beyond Music
Amy keeps her private life separate from her singing career. She chose the stage name Amy Diamond when she released her first song. She said she chose "Diamond" because it is her birthstone.
When Amy was a child, she rarely missed school, even with her music career. She said that promotional jobs were mostly on weekends. If she had gigs on weekdays, she would do her schoolwork as homework. She has said that math, PE, and sewing were her favorite subjects. She believed her education was important. It would allow her to do something else if music did not work out. She wanted to sing as long as it was fun. She also mentioned that hairdressing was a future dream hobby. Despite her busy schedule, she had time for holidays. Her manager-father handled the business side, and her parents supported her.
In 2006, Amy received requests for modeling and TV work. She appeared in a catalog for Ellos and did promotional work for Statoil and Stadium. In December, she played an ice princess on Lassemajas detektivbyrå, a Swedish Christmas series. This show allowed her to show her figure skating skills. She was also the Swedish Spokesperson for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest that year.
In May 2008, a jewelry maker launched a product called "Amy's Diamond". It is made of silver with a diamond and Amy's autograph. She also sang a song called "Connected" for the Barbie movie "Barbie and the Diamond Castle".
In summer 2010, she hosted the second season of the SVT show Bulldogg. This show lets kids spend time with a dog if their parents do not want pets at home. The show premiered on January 16, 2011. In spring 2011, Amy recorded the third season of Bulldogg.
