Early life and education
Ana Navarro was born in 1971 in Nicaragua. Her family was wealthy and owned land. In 1980, when Ana was eight years old, her family moved to the United States. They left Nicaragua because of political problems there.
Her father stayed behind to fight with a group called the Contras. They were fighting against the Sandinista government. Ana later said that when U.S. President Ronald Reagan supported the Contras, it made her a Republican for life.
Ana went to a private Catholic school for girls in Miami. She then studied at the University of Miami, earning a degree in Latin American Studies and Political Science in 1993. In 1997, she earned her law degree from St. Thomas University School of Law.
While in college, Ana worked to get help for the Contras. As a law student, she also helped Nicaraguan refugees. She successfully fought to keep them from being sent back to Nicaragua.

She was called a "Never Trumper" because of her strong opposition to him.
In the 2016 election, she voted for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. She made this choice because the election in Florida was very close. In the 2018 Florida governor's election, she voted for Democrat Andrew Gillum. She chose him over Republican Ron DeSantis because of DeSantis's ties to Trump.
