Andre Cason (born January 20, 1969) is an American former track and field sprinter. He was a very fast runner who specialized in short-distance races. He was part of the United States team that set a world record in the 4x100 meters relay. This happened at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. He also ran the 100 meters race in under 10 seconds, which is a big achievement for sprinters.

College Achievements

Andre Cason went to Texas A&M University. While there, he was a star athlete for the Aggies. He won two national championships in college sports. He was also named an All-American seven times. This means he was recognized as one of the best college athletes in the country.

Setting World Records

The year 1992 was a great start for Andre Cason. He broke the world indoor record for the 60 meters race three times. His fastest time became 6.41 seconds, which was a new world record. He also tied the world indoor record for the 50 meters race with a time of 5.62 seconds.

Andre kept his amazing speed into the early summer. However, he faced a tough challenge at the 1992 US Olympic Trials. He got a serious injury to his Achilles tendon. This injury kept him from competing for the rest of that season.

Comeback and More Medals

In 1993, Andre Cason made a strong comeback. He won the 100 meters race at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Later that year, he earned a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart. He ran the race in an impressive 9.92 seconds.

He also helped the US team in the 4x100 meters relay. They tied the world record with a time of 37.40 seconds in the semi-finals. In the final race, they won the gold medal with a time of 37.48 seconds.

Coaching Career

After his competitive running career, Andre Cason became a coach. From 2010 to 2013, he coached sprinters for the Liaoning Province Team in China. He also helped to develop the Chinese National Sprint Team.

In 2014, Cason worked in Hong Kong. He oversaw high-level training for professional MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighters. Since late 2014, Andre Cason has been the National Sprint Coach for Thailand. He also coaches the Thailand Olympic team, helping their athletes prepare for the biggest competitions.
