Andre Cason, born on January 20, 1969, is a former American track and field sprinter. He was part of the U.S. 4 × 100 meters relay team. This team won a gold medal at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. They set a world record time of 37.50 seconds. Soon after, Cason ran his first sub-10-second 100 meters race. He won in Koblenz with a time of 9.99 seconds.

College Career and Early Success

Andre Cason attended Texas A&M University. While there, he was a two-time NCAA champion. He also earned the title of seven-time All-American for the Aggies track team.

Setting World Records Indoors

The year 1992 started very well for Cason. He set a world indoor record for the 60 meters three times. His final record for the 60 meters was 6.41 seconds. He also matched the world indoor record for the 50 meters with a time of 5.62 seconds. Cason kept his excellent performance into the early summer.

Overcoming an Injury

At the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials, Andre Cason faced a serious challenge. He suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon. This injury kept him out of competition for the rest of the season. It was a tough setback for his career.

Comeback and World Championship Medals

In 1993, Cason made a strong comeback. He won the 100 meters at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Later that year, he earned a silver medal in the 100 meters at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics in Stuttgart. His time was 9.92 seconds.

Relay Team Achievements

At the same 1993 World Championships, Cason was part of the U.S. 4 × 100 meters relay team. In the semi-finals, they tied the world record with a time of 37.40 seconds. In the final race, they won the gold medal. Their winning time was 37.48 seconds.

Coaching Career

After his racing career, Andre Cason became a coach. From 2010 to 2013, he coached sprinters for the Liaoning Province Team in China. He also helped develop the Chinese National Sprint Team. In 2014, Cason worked in Hong Kong. He oversaw high-performance training for professional MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighters. Since late 2014, Cason has been the National Sprint Coach for Thailand. He also coaches the Thailand Olympic team.
