Andre Darnell Reed (born January 29, 1964) is a famous American former football player. He played as a wide receiver for 16 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). Most of his career was with the Buffalo Bills.
Reed played college football at Kutztown University. The Bills picked him in the fourth round of the 1985 NFL draft. He played 15 seasons with the Bills, earning seven Pro Bowl selections. His last season was in 2000 with the Washington Redskins.
Andre Reed is known for his amazing catches and helping the Bills reach four Super Bowls in a row. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.

Early Life and High School Football
Andre Reed was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on January 29, 1964. He started playing football at Dieruff High School. There, he played as a quarterback.
His high school was known for producing great football players. In 1981, his senior year, Reed helped Dieruff win a share of the championship.
College Football Career
After high school, Reed went to Kutztown University. He switched from quarterback to wide receiver. NFL teams quickly noticed his speed and toughness.
He set nine school records during his college career. He finished with 142 catches for 2,020 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Professional Football Journey
Playing for the Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills drafted Andre Reed in 1985. He was the 86th player chosen overall. He was only the second player from Kutztown to be drafted into the NFL.
Reed played for the Bills for 15 seasons, from 1985 to 1999. He was a key player in helping the Bills reach four straight Super Bowls. In 2000, the Bills released him and other long-time players. This was due to money issues with the team.
"The Comeback" Game
Andre Reed is famous for his role in "The Comeback" game. This was a playoff game on January 3, 1993, against the Houston Oilers. Houston was leading 35–3 in the third quarter.
Reed caught three touchdowns in the second half. This helped Buffalo come back from a 32-point deficit. It was the biggest comeback in NFL history. Reed had eight catches for 136 yards and three touchdowns in that game.
After this amazing win, the Bills played in Super Bowl XXVII. Reed caught eight passes for 152 yards in that game.
Time with the Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins
In 2000, Reed signed with the Denver Broncos. However, he was not playing much. He asked to be released so he could play more.
He then joined the Washington Redskins. He retired from football after the 2000 season.

Andre Reed holds impressive records in NFL history. He ranks 15th in all-time touchdown catches with 87. He is also ninth in all-time post-season catches with 85.

Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame
In 2006, Andre Reed was voted into the Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame. This honor means his name is placed in cement at Highmark Stadium. He was inducted in 2009.
His former teammate Bruce Smith and team owner Ralph Wilson were also inducted that night. Many people called Reed a "future Hall of Famer" during the ceremony.
Pro Football Hall of Fame Induction
Andre Reed became eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006. This is the highest honor for a former NFL player. It took several years for him to be selected.
On February 1, 2014, Reed was finally chosen for the Hall of Fame. He was officially inducted on August 2, 2014.
Life After Football: Television and Charity
Since retiring from the NFL in 2000, Reed has worked in television. He has been a football commentator on shows like First Take on ESPN2. He also appears as an analyst on NFL on Fox.
He has also acted in TV shows. He appeared in Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver. He also appeared as himself and a car salesman in Magnum PI.
Helping Kids Through Philanthropy
The Andre Reed Foundation started in 2010. Its goal is to help kids who don't have many opportunities. The foundation helps them reach their full potential.
Reed is also an Ambassador for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). He was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2015. He leads a reading program for kids called "Read with Reed 83 Challenge."
Legacy and Personal Life
On October 18, 2014, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, Reed's old college, honored him. They renamed their football field Andre Reed Stadium.
In 2023, Reed married Theresa Villano in San Diego, California. He also hosts an annual celebrity golf event. His nephew, Jackson Reed, plays college football as a wide receiver for Susquehanna University. Jackson also wears the number 83, just like his uncle.
In 2025, Andre Reed was named commissioner of the Entertainment Football Association. This is an arena football league with teams along the Eastern Seaboard.
