Early Life
Andrew McFarlane was born in Albany, Western Australia. His family later moved to Melbourne. There, he went to Camberwell Grammar School. He enjoyed being in school plays and was part of the school cadets.
Acting Career
Andrew McFarlane started his acting journey on TV. He appeared in police shows like Homicide and Matlock Police. He then got a regular part in Division 4.
Famous TV Roles
One of his first big roles was playing John Sullivan in the TV show The Sullivans. This show was about a family during World War II. Andrew left the show after a year and a half. His character, John, was reported missing in the story. Writers hoped he would come back, and he did for a TV movie called The John Sullivan Story. For this role, Andrew won a Sammy Award in 1977 for best supporting actor.
Later, he played the main character, Dr. Tom Callaghan, in the miniseries The Flying Doctors. He continued this role in the TV series that followed. He left the show for a while but came back for more episodes.
Andrew has also appeared in other popular Australian TV shows. He played a police prosecutor in Rafferty's Rules. He was the father of Tasha Andrews in Home and Away. In 2005, he played Bobby Hoyland in Neighbours.

Since 2000, Andrew McFarlane has been a presenter on Play School. This is a very popular children's TV show in Australia. He also helped tell stories on Australian History for ABC.
He played Brian Reynolds, Paul's father, in the TV series Spellbinder. He was also Hugh Delaney in the miniseries The Alice. In 2009, he acted in the series Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities. In 2010, he performed in a musical for the first time. It was Fame – The Musical in Sydney.
More recently, Andrew has had important roles in other TV series. These include Love Child (2014), Devil's Playground (2014), and Glitch (2015).
