Andrew Stewart, 2nd Lord Avondale (who later became known as Andrew Stuart, 1st Lord Ochiltree) was an important noble in Scotland. He lived in the 1500s and passed away in 1549.
Becoming Lord Ochiltree
Andrew was the son of Andrew Stewart, 1st Lord Avondale. His father gave up his title so Andrew could receive a new one. This new title was Lord Ochiltree.
Andrew's new home became Ochiltree Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland. The original Avondale lands were traded for other lands. Andrew traded his lands at East Wemyss for Ochiltree. This trade happened with James Colville, who was a royal official. In 1534, the exchange was made official. Andrew was confirmed as Lord Avondale in 1543 by Regent Arran, who was a powerful leader at the time.
