Angel Taylor's Early Life
Angel Mae Taylor was born on March 20, 1988, in Los Angeles, California. She is the youngest of five daughters. Her mother's name is LaTonya Taylor. Angel grew up living in both Sylmar and Santa Clarita, California. Her older sister, Ebony, appeared on a TV show called America's Next Top Model.
How Angel Started in Music
Angel Taylor did not take music lessons when she was young. Instead, she taught herself how to play both the piano and the guitar. She found her inspiration to write songs at age 13. This happened when her sister Ebony, who was a year older, started writing poetry.
Getting a Record Deal
Angel's journey in music began when she reached out to a music producer named Mikal Blue. He had worked with famous artists like Colbie Caillat. Angel wanted to rent his studio to record some songs for her family. After hearing her music, Mikal Blue was very impressed. He decided he wanted to help her get a record deal.
A few months later, Angel took her first airplane trip to a record label studio in New York. She signed a contract with Aware/Columbia Records. This allowed her to move into her first home with her mother and two of her sisters.
First Album and Recognition
Angel's first album, called Love Travels, was released on iTunes on March 31, 2009. Before this album, she had already released a shorter collection of songs, an EP. Her song "Make Me Believe" was chosen as the iTunes single of the week in March 2009. She was also featured by VH1 as an "Artist on the Rise." This meant she was a new artist to watch out for.
