Anones is a neighborhood, or barrio, in the town of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. It is located in the southern part of Naranjito. In 2010, about 4,976 people lived there. Anones has schools and shops, and it is known for being the most mountainous area in Naranjito.
A Look at Anones' Past
After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the U.S. but was not fully a state.
In 1899, the U.S. government counted all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census found that 1,420 people lived in the Anones neighborhood at that time.
