History of Anson
The land that became Anson was first measured and mapped in 1848 by teams working for the U.S. government. These teams walked through the woods and rivers to mark all the section corners. They used tools like a Gunter's chain and a Solar compass to measure the land.
After their work, a surveyor described the area. They noted that some parts of the town were flat and wet, while others were dry and sandy. The Yellow River was mentioned as the main stream. The description also talked about the types of trees found there, like Tamarack, Aspen, Birch, Ash, Maple, and Elm.
