Anthon is a small city in Woodbury County, Iowa, United States. It is part of the larger Sioux City area, which includes parts of Iowa, NE, and SD. In 2020, about 545 people lived in Anthon.
Anthon is known for being the home of some very unique people! One was Charles Osborne, who had the hiccups for an amazing 68 years. This earned him a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Another famous resident was Bernard Coyne, a very tall man who grew to be over 8 feet (243 cm) tall.
The city of Anthon was named after J. C. Anthon, who was a railroad engineer. The town was officially started in 1888.

The very first school in Anthon was called Fox School, built in 1888. It was replaced by the Anthon School in 1890, which later closed in 1918. A new brick school building opened that same year.
In 1959, the Anthon and Oto school districts joined together to form the Anthon–Oto Community School District. Later, around 1993, this district started sharing classes with the Maple Valley Community School District. This meant all high school students from both districts went to high school in Mapleton. Finally, on July 1, 2012, the Anthon–Oto district officially merged with Maple Valley to create the Maple Valley–Anthon–Oto district we know today.
