Anthony is a city located in Harper County, Kansas, in the United States. It is also the main city, or county seat, of Harper County. In 2020, about 2,108 people lived in Anthony.

History of Anthony, Kansas
The city of Anthony was first planned out in 1878. It was named after George T. Anthony, who was the 7th governor of Kansas at that time.
Becoming the County Seat
In 1878, Harper County was reorganized. Anthony was chosen as the temporary county seat. This was because the previous county seat, Bluff City, didn't actually exist.
In 1879, an election was held to decide the permanent county seat. Anthony won against Harper City. This happened even though many more votes were cast than there were legal voters in the county.
Railroads and Transportation
For a long time, Anthony was an important hub for railroads. By 1891, two major railroads, the St. Louis-San Francisco Railroad and the Missouri Pacific Railway, crossed paths here.
By 1912, three more railroads came through town. These included the Choctaw Northern Railroad and the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railroad. However, by the year 2000, all train services to Anthony had stopped.
Geography and Climate
Anthony is located in Kansas. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city covers about 3.31 square miles (8.31 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

The weather in Anthony has hot and humid summers. Winters are usually mild to cool. This type of weather is called a humid subtropical climate. On climate maps, it's known as "Cfa".

Education in Anthony
The public schools in Anthony are part of the Chaparral USD 361 school district. This district was formed when the schools in Anthony and Harper joined together.
Both Anthony and Harper have elementary schools. The high school for the district, Chaparral High School, is located between the two towns. The school mascot for Chaparral High School is the Roadrunners.
Anthony used to have its own high school, Anthony High School. Its mascot was the Pirates. This school closed when the districts combined.
Notable People from Anthony
- Dennis Moore: He was a Congressman for Kansas from 1999 to 2011. He was born in Anthony.
- Neal Patterson: An American businessman who was the CEO of Cerner Corporation, a medical software company.
- Virgil A. Richard: A United States Army general who was born in Anthony.
- Sidney Toler (1874–1947): An actor, playwright, and theater director. He was famous for playing the detective Charlie Chan in 22 movies.
