However, he didn't play for them. Instead, he played basketball in many countries like Croatia, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, Cyprus, Venezuela, and Japan. In 2015, Anthony was honored by being added to the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame.

High School Hoops

Anthony Reed was born in Monroe, Louisiana. He played basketball for his high school team at Wossman High School. He played as a center and a forward. In his junior year, he scored about 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds per game. This made him one of the best players in his district.

When he was a senior, Anthony was recognized as one of the top players in the state. He was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in a special all-star game. In that game, he scored 14 points and got 10 rebounds for his team.

College Career: Tulane Star

In November 1988, Anthony Reed decided to play for Tulane University. His coach, Perry Clark, immediately made him a starter in his first year. Anthony played in all 28 games. He led his team in rebounds and minutes played. He was also the second-highest scorer, averaging 18.4 points per game.

Anthony set new records for a freshman at Tulane. He scored 514 points and had the highest scoring average for a first-year player. He scored 20 or more points in 12 different games! Because of his amazing first year, he was named the Metro Conference Freshman of the Year. He was also chosen for the All-Metro Conference second team.

Leading the Green Wave

In his second year, Anthony continued to shine. He led his team in scoring, minutes played, rebounds, and blocks. On December 8, 1989, he scored his career-high of 32 points in a game against Tennessee Tech. His great play earned him a spot on the first-team All-Metro Conference.

During his junior year, Anthony led the team in rebounds and minutes for the third year in a row. He was also the second-highest scorer. That year, Tulane won the Metro Conference title, and Anthony was a key player in their success. He was recognized with several awards, including being named to the All-Conference second team. Tulane also made it to the 1992 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament. Anthony played in both tournament games, scoring 12 points in each.

A Tulane Legend's Farewell

In his final year at Tulane, Anthony once again led his team in scoring, rebounding, minutes, and blocks. On December 23, 1992, he set a personal record with 6 blocks in one game. He also improved his three-point shooting.

On March 6, 1993, which was his "senior day," Tulane honored Anthony by retiring his jersey number, 55. This means no other player at Tulane will wear that number. On that same night, Anthony scored his 1,853rd point, becoming Tulane's all-time leading scorer! At the end of the year, he was again selected for the All-Metro Conference first team. He also played in the 1993 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, scoring 12 and 11 points in his two games.

Anthony played 118 games for Tulane, starting every single one. He finished with 1,896 total points, which was a school record at the time. He also ranks high in rebounds and blocks. Anthony helped Tulane become a nationally ranked team during his last two seasons. In 2015, he was inducted into the Louisiana Basketball Hall of Fame for his amazing college career.
