Antoine "Spitz" Kohn was a famous football player and manager from Luxembourg. He was born on November 1, 1933, and passed away on November 24, 2012.

Playing Career

Antoine Kohn played as a striker, which means he was a goal-scorer! He played for many teams in different countries. He played in Germany, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Later, he became a very successful manager there. People called him "Spitz" because he was so fierce and good at scoring goals.

Club Teams

Kohn started his career in Luxembourg with Jeunesse Esch. After that, he moved to Germany to play for Karlsruher SC. He then played for FC Basel in Switzerland. Most of his career was spent in the Netherlands. There, he played for Fortuna '54, Sportclub Enschede, and FC Twente.

International Matches

Antoine Kohn also played for his home country, the Luxembourg national team. He played his first game for Luxembourg in September 1953. It was a World Cup qualification match against France. In that game, he scored a goal right away! He played a total of 7 official games for Luxembourg and scored one goal. His last international game was in September 1965.

Manager Career

After he stopped playing football, Antoine Kohn became a football manager. He was very successful in this new role.

Managing FC Twente

Kohn became the manager of FC Twente in July 1972. Under his leadership, FC Twente did very well. They finished second in the Dutch league in the 1973–74 season. They also reached the UEFA Cup Final in May 1975. However, they lost to the German team Borussia Mönchengladbach. In the 1976–77 season, FC Twente won the KNVB Cup, which is a big Dutch football cup!

Other Teams and Ajax

After his time at FC Twente, Kohn managed Go Ahead Eagles in 1980. He also managed Club Brugge in Belgium in 1981. He returned to FC Twente for a short time in 1982–83.

From 1984 to 1990, he worked as an assistant coach at Ajax Amsterdam. In 1985, he took over as manager for the last five games of the season. He led Ajax to win the Dutch championship that year! He worked with famous players like Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard. In 1988, he was again a caretaker manager for Ajax. His assistant at that time was Louis van Gaal, who later became a very famous manager himself.

Antoine Kohn finished his career working as a scout. He looked for new talented players for clubs like Udinese and SC Heerenveen.
