Antoinette Monsio Sayeh, born on July 12, 1958, in Monrovia, Liberia, is a talented Liberian economist. She held a very important job as the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) until September 2024. Before that, she was the director of the African Department at the IMF from 2008 to 2016. She also worked as a special expert at the Center for Global Development.

Early Life and Education
Antoinette Sayeh studied at Swarthmore College. She then went to The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. There, she earned her master's and Ph.D. degrees. Her studies focused on how countries' economies work together.
Career Beginnings
Sayeh worked for the World Bank for many years. She helped countries like Benin, Niger, and Togo. She also worked in Pakistan. Her work involved managing public money and improving government services. The BBC said she was very good at her job.
Role as Finance Minister
From 2006 to 2008, Sayeh was the Minister of Finance in Liberia. She worked for President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Sayeh was the second woman ever to hold this important position in Liberia. The first was Ellen Johnson Sirleaf herself.
Key Goals as Minister
As Finance Minister, Sayeh had big goals. She wanted to lower Liberia's large national debt. She also worked to organize the country's banking system. A major part of her job was fighting against corruption.
Work at the International Monetary Fund
In July 2008, Antoinette Sayeh joined the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She became the Director of the Africa Department. In this role, she became one of the most influential African leaders in the world. She retired from the IMF on September 12, 2024.
Deputy Managing Director
On March 16, 2020, Sayeh was chosen for an even higher role. She became the Deputy Managing Director of the IMF. This was a nomination by the Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva.
