Juan Antonio María Flores y Jijón de Vivanco (born October 23, 1833 – died August 30, 1915) was an important leader in Ecuador. He served as the President of Ecuador from August 17, 1888, to June 10, 1892. He was part of a political group called the Progressive Party. This party had ideas that were both liberal and connected to the Catholic faith.

Early Life and Family

Antonio Flores was born in Quito, the capital city of Ecuador. His birthplace was special: he was born in the Carondelet Palace. This palace is where the President of Ecuador lives and works.

His father was General Juan José Flores, who was also the President of Ecuador at the time of Antonio's birth. Antonio was married to Leonor Ruiz de Apodaca y García-Tienza. She was from Cuba.

Political Career

Antonio Flores Jijón had a long career in public service. He worked as a diplomat for Ecuador. A diplomat is someone who represents their country in other nations. They help keep good relationships between countries.

Antonio Flores Jijón passed away on August 30, 1915. He died in Geneva, Switzerland. His death was caused by problems from pneumonia, which is a lung infection.
