Arbor Heights is a friendly neighborhood located in West Seattle, Washington. It's the southernmost part of West Seattle. Imagine a place nestled between SW Roxbury Street, the beautiful Puget Sound, and some hills. It's a quiet, mostly residential area where families live.

Arbor Heights Elementary School

The neighborhood is home to Arbor Heights Elementary School. This school was rebuilt and made bigger between 2014 and 2015. It's a K-5 school, meaning it teaches students from kindergarten through fifth grade. It's part of the Seattle School District. In 2021, about 535 students attended the school.

The original school building was built in 1948. The school sits on more than four acres of land. It has a large playground and a special play area. In 2006, the playground was named after Jackie Keegan. She was a longtime administrative assistant and playground supervisor at the school.

Students at Arbor Heights Elementary learn about music and get to have physical education classes every other day. The school also publishes a monthly student newspaper. It's been around since 1994 and is known as one of the oldest continuously published elementary school student newspapers online!

Every spring, the school hosts a Young Authors’ Conference. Here, every student gets to publish their own book! The school also takes part in a special salmon release program each year. They hatch tiny salmon fry and then release them into the local Fauntleroy Creek.

Arbor Heights Elementary also has an artist in residence program every year. This means a professional artist comes to teach students. In the spring, the school holds either a science fair or an art fair. They even have a kiln, so students can create cool clay projects. The school also hosts an annual carnival in the spring, which is a lot of fun.

Students at the school also help their community. They have done projects like a "Kids for Cans" food drive. They also collected coins to help the Humane Society after Hurricane Katrina. Another project was a blanket drive for the Union Gospel Mission in Seattle.

There are no middle or high schools directly in Arbor Heights. However, the neighborhood does have a private club called the Arbor Heights Swim and Tennis Club. It's a great place for swimming and playing tennis.

Arbor Heights is mostly a residential area. This means it's mainly made up of homes. The closest places with shops and businesses are north in the Roxhill neighborhood. There's also a small business area down the hill to the west in the Fauntleroy neighborhood.
