Arcola is a city located in Fort Bend County, Texas, in the United States. It is part of the larger Houston area. In 2020, about 2,034 people lived there. This was more than the 1,642 people counted in 2010 and the 1,048 people in 2000. Arcola officially became a city in 1986.

Geography of Arcola
Arcola is found near the eastern edge of Fort Bend County. Its exact location is 29°30′5″N 95°27′50″W / 29.50139°N 95.46389°W. Texas State Highway 6 goes through the city. This highway leads about 14 miles (23 km) northwest to Sugar Land and 14 miles (23 km) southeast to Alvin. Downtown Houston is about 22 miles (35 km) north of Arcola.
The United States Census Bureau says Arcola covers a total area of about 2.61 square miles (6.75 square kilometers). A very small part of this area, about 0.04 square miles (0.09 square kilometers), is water.

Education in Arcola
Students in Arcola go to schools that are part of the Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD). This school district was created in 1959. It combined the Missouri City and Sugar Land school districts.
Schools for Arcola Students
Most students in Arcola attend Heritage Rose Elementary School. They then go to Thornton Middle School and Almeta Crawford High School. Some students, especially those north of Texas State Highway 6 and north and west of Farm to Market Road 521, go to Burton Elementary School, Lake Olympia Middle School, and Hightower High School.
Arcola is also part of the Houston Community College (HCC) area. This means students can attend HCC after high school.
History of Schools in Arcola
In 1959, when FBISD started, there was one school for Black students in Arcola called Oaklane Elementary School. It taught grades 1-8. Older Black students went to M.R. Wood School in Sugar Land. White students went to different schools in Missouri City and Sugar Land.
In 1965, schools became desegregated, meaning students of all races could go to the same schools. Oaklane Elementary School closed, and its students went to Blue Ridge Elementary School. Dulles High School became the main high school for all students in the district.
Over the years, school zones have changed. For example, before 1998, students went to Elkins High School. Then, until 2010, all Arcola students were zoned to Hightower High School. More recently, in 2018, many students were moved to Thornton Middle School. In 2023, some parts of Arcola that used to go to Ridge Point High School were changed to Crawford High School.
Transportation
Houston Southwest Airport, which is an airport for smaller planes, is located within the city limits of Arcola.
