The Arenys de Mar Museum (Catalan: Museu d'Arenys de Mar) is a cool museum located in Arenys de Mar, Spain. It's actually made up of two main parts. One part is all about beautiful lace, and the other is about amazing minerals. The museum also keeps and shows off collections from an older museum in Arenys de Mar.
Marès Lace Museum
The Marès Lace Museum (Catalan: Museu Marès de la Punta) is found in a very old building. This building is from the 1600s and used to be a hospital! In 1983, it became a museum to show the special lace collection of Frederic Marès.
Today, this museum focuses completely on lace making. It has many different lace collections. Some of these famous collections belonged to Tórtola Valencia, Vives-Nadal, and Castells.
One room in the Marès Lace Museum has items from the old Fidel Fita Municipal Museum. These items tell the story of Arenys de Mar through time. You can see ancient pieces from the Torre dels Encantats Iberian settlement. There are also cool old objects related to sailing and ships.
Mollfulleda Mineralogy Museum
This museum opened on October 9, 1988. It was created thanks to a generous gift from Joaquim Mollfulleda i Borrell. He gave his huge collection of minerals to the town of Arenys de Mar.
The museum is in another historic building. In 1790, Josep Baralt started the very first nautical (sailing) school in Spain right here! The Mollfulleda Mineralogy Museum is a science museum. It has a valuable collection of minerals from all over the world. These minerals are carefully organized and displayed.
