History of Chaumont Arrondissement
The Chaumont arrondissement was created a long time ago, in 1800. It was one of the original parts of the Haute-Marne department when that department was first formed.
Geography of Chaumont
The Chaumont arrondissement is right in the middle of the Haute-Marne department. It shares borders with other areas. To the north, it's next to the Saint-Dizier arrondissement. To the east, it borders the Vosges department. South of it is the Langres arrondissement. The Côte-d'Or department is to its southwest, and the Aube department is to its west.
This arrondissement is the largest in the Haute-Marne department by size. It covers about 2,476.3 square kilometers (about 956 square miles). Even though it's the biggest in area, it's the second largest in terms of how many people live there. In 2014, about 64,970 people lived in the Chaumont arrondissement. This means there were about 26.2 people living in each square kilometer.
