What is the History of Romorantin-Lanthenay?
The Loir-et-Cher department was created way back in 1800. At that time, the area we now call Romorantin-Lanthenay was known simply as the arrondissement of Romorantin. Later, in 1961, the town of Romorantin joined with another town called Lanthenay. This merger changed the name of both the town and the arrondissement to Romorantin-Lanthenay, as we know it today.
Where is Romorantin-Lanthenay Located?
The arrondissement of Romorantin-Lanthenay is found in the southern part of the Loir-et-Cher department. It's the biggest arrondissement in the department by land size, covering about 2,385 square kilometers (or 921 square miles). Even though it's the largest in size, it's the second largest in terms of how many people live there, with about 90,237 inhabitants.
It shares its borders with other areas:
- To the north, it's next to the Loiret department.
- To the east, it borders the Cher department.
- To the south, you'll find the Indre-et-Loire department.
- To the west, it's next to the arrondissement of Blois.
