Asomante is a small area, or barrio, located in the town of Aibonito, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 2,966 people lived there. It is known for its beautiful views, as "Asomante" means "overlook" or "lookout point" in Spanish.

History of Asomante

After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This was part of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it is part of the U.S. but not a state.

In 1899, the United States Department of War counted the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that Asomante and a nearby barrio called Caonillas had a combined population of 1,245 people.

Sectors of Asomante

In Puerto Rico, a "barrio" is like a neighborhood or a small division of a town. These barrios are then divided into even smaller areas. These smaller areas are called sectores (which means "sectors" in English).

The types of sectors can be different. Some are simply called "sector." Others might be called "urbanización," "reparto," "barriada," or "residencial." These names often describe the type of community or housing found there.
