Where is Aten Located?
Aten is found in the northwestern part of Cedar County. It's right next to the Missouri River. This river also forms the border with the state of South Dakota to the north.
A road called Nebraska Highway 121 goes through Aten. If you drive east for about 2 miles (3.2 km), you'll reach U.S. Route 81. This spot is also about 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Yankton, South Dakota. If you drive west from Aten for about 2 miles (3.2 km), you'll find Gavins Point Dam. This dam holds back the Missouri River, creating a big lake called Lewis and Clark Lake.
Aten's History
Aten was started a long time ago, in 1881. It was named after a person named John Aten, who was the postmaster there. A post office opened in Aten in 1882. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. The post office stayed open for many years, but it closed down in 1906.
