The community of Atlantic Mine began in 1872. This happened when two mining companies, the South Pewabic Mining Company and the Adams Mining Company, joined together. They formed a new company called the Atlantic Mining Company.

This new company operated a "stamping works" in the community. A stamping works was a place where copper ore was crushed to get the valuable metal out. The Atlantic Mining Company worked here until 1911. A post office was set up in Atlantic Mine in 1876.
