Geography of Atwater
Atwater covers a total area of about 1.08 square miles (2.80 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.03 square miles (2.67 square kilometers), is land. A small part, 0.05 square miles (0.13 square kilometers), is water.
U.S. Route 12 is a major road that goes through the city. This route helps connect Atwater to other towns and cities.
History of Atwater
Atwater was first planned out in 1869. It officially became a city on February 17, 1876. The city got its name from E. D. Atwater, who was an important official for the railroad.
A post office has been open in Atwater since 1870. This shows that people have been living and communicating in the area for a very long time!
Education in Atwater
Atwater is part of a combined school district. This district includes students from Atwater, Cosmos, and Grove City. Together, they are known as the "ACGC" school district.
