A Look Back: History of Au Train Township
The area around Au Train Township has an interesting past. A village called Forest Lake was started in 1890 by the Cleveland Cliffs Company. It was first known as "Dixon." Later, a post office opened in a place called Coalwood in 1906, but it closed a few years later.
The Dixon post office opened in 1915. It was later renamed Forest Lake in 1921. The Forest Lake Post Office served the community for many years before closing in 1984.
