About the Artist: Life and Work

Augusto Ferrer-Dalmau Nieto grew up in Barcelona. He studied at St. Ignatius College. In the late 1980s, he worked as a textile designer. But he always loved oil painting and history. From a young age, he enjoyed painting military scenes. His first independent paintings were landscapes, especially seascapes.

Developing His Unique Painting Style

Later, he was inspired by artist Antonio López García. Ferrer-Dalmau began to paint city scenes of his hometown, Barcelona. He showed his art in galleries and received good reviews. By the late 1990s, he decided to focus on historical military themes. He started creating paintings that combined landscapes with soldiers and cavalry.

Painting History: From Madrid to War Zones

Since 2010, Ferrer-Dalmau has lived in Madrid. He works with publishers and organizations that focus on Spanish military history. Many books have been published about his paintings. He also created his own magazine, FD (Ferrer-Dalmau) Magazine. This magazine explores Spanish history and its people through art. His paintings are used in many history books and magazines.

Ferrer-Dalmau has even visited real conflict zones. He went to places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Mali, and Lebanon. He made sketches and took notes while living with Spanish soldiers. He was the first Spanish painter to go on such missions for the Spanish Ministry of Defense. Other armies, like the US Marine Corps, also have official war artists. Ferrer-Dalmau is a member of The International Society of War Artists. He painted La Patrulla (The Patrol) to honor Spanish soldiers. He continued to paint Spanish troops in Lebanon in 2016, Mali in 2018, and Iraq in 2019. In 2018, he also painted with the Russian Federation Army in Aleppo, Syria.
