Auquainville is a small, former town located in the Calvados area of Normandy, in north-western France. It was once its own commune (a small administrative area), but on January 1, 2016, it joined with other towns to form a new, larger commune called Livarot-Pays-d'Auge.

Exploring Auquainville's Location

Auquainville is about 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of a city called Lisieux. It's also about 13 kilometers (8 miles) west of Orbec. You can get to Auquainville by taking the D149 road, which goes through the village. Another road, the D64, also passes through the eastern part of the area.

Besides the main village, there are a few smaller groups of houses, like La Blondeliere to the west and Le Mollants and Le Maubuisson to the east. The land around Auquainville is a mix of forests and farms. There's a big forest called the Bois des Grandes Ventes located west of the village.

The Touques river flows through Auquainville from south to north, just east of the village. This river eventually reaches the ocean at Trouville-sur-Mer. A smaller stream, the Ruisseau de la Marette, also starts in Auquainville and flows into the Touques river.

Auquainville's Past

In 1831, Auquainville, which had 456 people, joined together with a smaller nearby village called Saint-Aubin-sur-Auquainville, which had 91 people. Saint-Aubin-sur-Auquainville was located just south of Auquainville.
