Austin Edward Seferian-Jenkins (born September 29, 1992) is a former professional football player. He played as a tight end in the National Football League (NFL). Austin was chosen by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He also played college football for the Washington Huskies. Later in his career, he played for the New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Early Life and High School Football

Austin Seferian-Jenkins grew up in Gig Harbor, Washington. He went to Gig Harbor High School. There, he played football for the Gig Harbor High School Tides team.

During his high school career, Austin caught 126 passes. He was also chosen to play in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Experts like Rivals.com thought he was a top player. He was ranked as the second-best tight end in his group.

Austin chose to attend the University of Washington, which was his home state school. He picked Washington because it was the only big university that let him play both basketball and football.

College Football Career

Austin Seferian-Jenkins started playing for the Washington Huskies in 2011. As a first-year player, he started 10 out of 13 games. He caught 41 passes for 538 yards and scored six touchdowns. He also played basketball during his first year.

In his second year, he had 69 catches for 852 yards and seven touchdowns. He was one of the top players for the John Mackey Award, which goes to the best tight end in college football. By the end of his second year, he had already set new records for Washington's tight ends. He had 110 catches, 1,390 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns.

In 2013, Austin had surgery on his pinkie finger. After Washington won the 2013 Fight Hunger Bowl, he decided to leave college early. He entered the 2014 NFL draft. In his last year at Washington, he had 36 catches for 450 yards and eight touchdowns.

Professional Football Career

Before the 2014 NFL Draft, experts like CBS Sports thought Austin Seferian-Jenkins would be picked in the second round.

Draft and Early Years with Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers picked Austin in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. He was the 38th player chosen overall.

In his first year, 2014, Austin played in nine games. He caught 21 passes for 221 yards and scored two touchdowns. He scored his first NFL touchdown on October 26 against the Minnesota Vikings. His season ended early because of an injury.

In the 2015 season, Austin hoped to do even better. He had a great first game against the Tennessee Titans. He caught five passes for 110 yards and scored two touchdowns. These were the first touchdown passes for the Buccaneers' new quarterback, Jameis Winston. Austin scored two more touchdowns that season. Overall, he played in seven games with 338 receiving yards and four touchdowns.

In 2016, Austin played in the first two games for the Buccaneers. He had one catch for 30 yards and a touchdown in the first game. After his second game, he was released by the Buccaneers.

Time with the New York Jets

On September 26, 2016, the New York Jets picked up Austin Seferian-Jenkins. He played seven games with the Jets in 2016. He caught 10 passes for 110 yards.

In 2017, Austin was suspended for the first two weeks of the season. During a game against the New England Patriots, there was a close call near the endzone. It was ruled that he fumbled the ball, which was a big play in a game the Jets lost 17–24. He played in 13 games that season, starting 10 of them. He finished with 50 catches for 357 yards and three touchdowns.

Playing for Jacksonville and New England

On March 15, 2018, Austin signed a two-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played in five games for them in 2018. He caught 11 passes for 90 yards and one touchdown. He was placed on injured reserve in October 2018 due to a muscle injury. In February 2019, the Jaguars decided not to keep him on their team.

On April 10, 2019, Austin signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. However, he was released on June 4, 2019, due to personal reasons.
