Auston Trusty (born August 12, 1998) is an American professional soccer player. He plays as a center-back or left-back. Currently, he plays for the Celtic club in Scotland. He also plays for the United States national team.

Trusty started his club career in the USL Championship. He then played in Major League Soccer for the Philadelphia Union and Colorado Rapids. Later, he signed with Premier League club Arsenal. He spent the 2022–23 season on loan at Birmingham City. In August 2023, Trusty joined Sheffield United. He made his Premier League debut with them. In 2024, he moved to Celtic. Trusty has also played for his country at different youth levels. He made his debut for the senior national team in March 2023.

Early Life and Youth Soccer

Auston Trusty was born in Media, Pennsylvania. He is the youngest of six children. All of his brothers and sisters played college soccer. His sister, Onnie Nicholson, even played soccer internationally.

Trusty began playing soccer with Nether United Soccer Club. This club is located in Wallingford. He went to Penncrest High School and played soccer there. In 2011, he joined the youth team of the Philadelphia Union.

Club Career Highlights

Starting with Bethlehem Steel

In 2016, Trusty signed an amateur contract with Bethlehem Steel. This team was a reserve team for the Philadelphia Union. This contract allowed him to still play college soccer. He could have played for the North Carolina Tar Heels. He played his first game for Bethlehem Steel on April 10, 2016. He played 44 games for the team over two seasons.

Playing for Philadelphia Union

On August 10, 2016, Trusty signed a special homegrown player deal. This meant he would play for the Philadelphia Union instead of going to college. He made his first appearance for the Union on March 3, 2018. This was in the club's first game of the season.

Trusty played every minute of the 2018 season. The team finished sixth in their conference. He scored his first professional goal on September 15. This was against the Montreal Impact. In 2019, he continued his streak of playing games. He played in seven more matches.

Moving to Colorado Rapids

On November 20, 2019, Trusty moved to the Colorado Rapids. He made his first appearance for the Rapids on July 17, 2020. This was during the MLS is Back Tournament. After his first season, Trusty signed a new contract. This kept him with the club until the end of 2023.

Joining Arsenal and Loan Spells

On January 31, 2022, Trusty signed with Premier League club Arsenal. However, he stayed on loan with the Colorado Rapids until July 17, 2022. After that, he returned to Arsenal. He was then immediately loaned to EFL Championship club Birmingham City. This was for the 2022–23 season.

Loan to Birmingham City

Trusty played his first competitive game in English football on July 30, 2022. This was a 0–0 draw against Luton Town. He scored his first two goals in England on October 8. This helped Birmingham win 3–0 against Bristol City. He scored an own goal in an FA Cup match. But he made up for it four days later. He scored the winning goal in a league match against Swansea City. Trusty played every minute of every league match that season. He played 44 games in total and scored four goals. Fans of Birmingham City voted him Player of the Season.

Playing for Sheffield United

On August 3, 2023, Trusty signed with Sheffield United. This team had just been promoted to the Premier League. He made his Premier League debut on September 16. This was in a 2–1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. He scored his first goal for Sheffield United on August 13, 2024. This was in an EFL Cup game against Wrexham.

Joining Celtic

On August 30, 2024, Trusty signed a five-year contract with Scottish Premiership club Celtic. This move meant he joined his international teammate, Cameron Carter-Vickers.

He made his debut in the UEFA Champions League on September 18. This was against Slovan Bratislava. He scored his first goal for Celtic on January 4, 2025. He scored the second goal in a 3–0 win against St Mirren. This game was played at Celtic Park.

International Career

Trusty has played for the United States under-17 team. He played in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile. He was given a red card in the first match. This meant he missed the next game. He was also part of the under-20 squad. He played in the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored one goal in that tournament. It was in a 6–0 win against New Zealand.

On December 20, 2018, Trusty was called up to the senior United States squad. He was called up again for a training camp in January 2022.

Trusty made his senior debut on March 24, 2023. He started a match against Grenada. He played the whole game and helped set up a goal. He was called up for the finals of the 2024–25 CONCACAF Nations League. However, he had to withdraw due to an injury.

Personal Life

In November 2024, Trusty and his wife, Emily Berardino, shared that they were expecting their first child. The couple got married in Glasgow in April 2025.
