Cameron Robert Carter-Vickers, born on December 31, 1997, is a professional soccer player. He plays as a center-back for the Scottish Premiership club Celtic. Even though he was born in England, he plays for the United States national team.

Cameron started his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy. He played his first games for the senior team in the 2016–17 season. From 2017 to 2021, he played for several other clubs on loan. These clubs were Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town, and Bournemouth.

In 2021, he joined Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on loan. He helped them win the league and the Scottish League Cup. In June 2022, he officially joined Celtic permanently. He was also named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for the 2021–22 and 2022–23 seasons, which is a big honor!

Cameron's Club Career Journey

Cameron Carter-Vickers joined the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy when he was 11 years old. Scouts noticed him playing for Catholic United when he was just 10.

He quickly moved up through the academy teams. On December 10, 2015, he was part of the senior team for the first time. This was for a UEFA Europa League match against AS Monaco. Cameron also played in the 2016 International Champions Cup, starting games against Juventus and Atlético Madrid. He was given the jersey number 38 for the 2016–17 season.

On September 21, 2016, he played his first official game for Tottenham's main team. This was in the EFL Cup against Gillingham, which Tottenham won 5–0. He also played in two FA Cup matches in January 2017.

Playing on Loan: Gaining Experience

Cameron signed a loan deal with Sheffield United on August 25, 2017. This team had just moved up to the EFL Championship. In his first league game, he scored the winning goal against Bolton Wanderers. After playing 18 games for Sheffield United, he returned to Tottenham in January 2018.

On January 19, 2018, Ipswich Town signed Cameron on loan. He played 17 games for Ipswich Town. The team finished in the middle of the league table.

Swansea City then signed Cameron on loan on August 25, 2018. He became a key defender for Swansea, playing 33 games. People were impressed by his ability to pass the ball well from his position.

On August 8, 2019, Cameron joined Stoke City on loan. He played 15 games there before Tottenham called him back. Four weeks later, he was sent on a six-month loan to Luton Town. Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, his loan to Luton was made longer until the end of the season.

Cameron joined AFC Bournemouth on a season-long loan on October 16, 2020. He scored his first goal for Bournemouth in a 2–1 win against Bristol City on March 3, 2021.

Returning to Tottenham and Joining Celtic

On August 19, 2021, Cameron played for Tottenham again for the first time since 2017. This was in the club's first-ever UEFA Europa Conference League match.

On August 31, 2021, Cameron joined Scottish Premiership team Celtic on loan. He scored a goal in his very first game for Celtic on September 13, helping them win 3–0 against Ross County.

On April 3, 2022, Cameron scored the winning goal in a big game against Rangers at Ibrox Stadium. This win put Celtic six points ahead in the league. He played 45 games that season, helping Celtic win the Scottish League Cup and the Premiership. Celtic also had the best defense in the league.

Because he played so well, Cameron signed a permanent four-year deal with Celtic on June 10, 2022. The transfer became official on July 1. On January 26, 2024, he signed an even longer contract, keeping him at Celtic until 2029!

Cameron's International Career

Playing for the United States Youth Teams

In the summer of 2014, Cameron was playing for Tottenham's youth team in Florida. There, he played against the United States under-17 team. American coaches noticed him and learned that his father was an American citizen, meaning Cameron could play for the USA.

Cameron first played for the United States under-18 team in August 2014. By October of that year, he was also on the United States under-23 team. He played for the United States under-20 team in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup, even though he was only 17. His team reached the quarter-finals.

In September 2016, there were reports that England wanted Cameron to play for them. However, the United States was ready to bring him into their senior team quickly. On October 10, 2016, Cameron was the captain for the United States under-20 team in a game against England.

Playing for the Senior United States Team

On November 6, 2016, Cameron was called up to the senior United States squad for the first time. He played his first game for the senior team on November 14, 2017. He came on as a substitute in a friendly match against Portugal.

In May 2022, coach Gregg Berhalter called Cameron back to the team after almost three years. He was then chosen to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November. He made his World Cup debut on November 29 against Iran.

Cameron's Playing Style

Cameron Carter-Vickers is known as a center-back who is good at passing the ball. His amazing strength and athletic ability are some of his best qualities as a defender. A former teammate at Celtic, Carl Starfelt, once said about Cameron, "Cameron is the strongest in the team — but he is never in the gym... I think he's just super-strong genetically as he is never in the gym."

Cameron's Personal Life

Cameron's father is Howard Carter, a retired American basketball player. His father played in the NBA and in Europe. Cameron's mother, Geraldine Vickers, is English and is from Essex. His parents met while they were both working in Greece. Cameron grew up in Essex, England, and went to The Eastwood Academy. He spent his summers visiting his father in Louisiana, USA.
