Cameron Robert Carter-Vickers (born December 31, 1997) is a professional soccer player. He plays as a center-back for the Scottish club Celtic. Even though he was born in England, he plays for the United States national team.
Carter-Vickers started his career at the Tottenham Hotspur Academy. He first played for the senior team in the 2016–17 season. From 2017 to 2021, he played for several different clubs on loan. These clubs included Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town, and Bournemouth.
In 2021, he joined Celtic in the Scottish Premiership on loan. A year later, he signed with them permanently. He has helped Celtic win the Scottish Premiership four times. He has also won the Scottish League Cup three times and the Scottish Cup twice. He was chosen for the PFA Scotland Team of the Year three times.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Tottenham Hotspur
Cameron Carter-Vickers joined the academy at Tottenham Hotspur when he was 11 years old. Scouts noticed him playing for Catholic United when he was just 10. He quickly moved up through the youth teams.
He first joined the senior team's match-day squad in December 2015. This was for a UEFA Europa League game against AS Monaco. He played in some friendly matches in 2016. On September 21, 2016, he made his first official game for Tottenham. This was in the EFL Cup against Gillingham, which Tottenham won 5–0. He also played in two FA Cup matches in January 2017.
Playing on Loan
Soccer players often go on loan to other clubs to get more playing time. Carter-Vickers spent several seasons playing for different teams.
- Sheffield United: On August 25, 2017, he joined Sheffield United on loan. He scored his first goal in his very first game for them. This was the winning goal against Bolton Wanderers. He played 18 games for Sheffield United before returning to Tottenham in January 2018.
- Ipswich Town: Soon after, on January 19, 2018, he went on loan to Ipswich Town. He played 17 games for them until the end of that season.
- Swansea City: On August 25, 2018, Swansea City signed him on loan. He played 33 games for Swansea. He was known for his good passing skills from the center-back position.
- Stoke City and Luton Town: In August 2019, Carter-Vickers joined Stoke City on loan. He played 15 games there. In January 2020, he moved to Luton Town on loan. His loan was extended because of the global health situation at the time.
- AFC Bournemouth: On October 16, 2020, he joined AFC Bournemouth on loan. He scored his first goal for Bournemouth in a 2–1 win against Bristol City on March 3, 2021.
Back at Tottenham
On August 19, 2021, Carter-Vickers played his first game for Tottenham since 2017. This was in a UEFA Europa Conference League match.
Success with Celtic
On August 31, 2021, Carter-Vickers joined Scottish Premiership team Celtic on loan. He scored a goal in his first game for Celtic on September 13. This helped Celtic win 3–0 against Ross County.
On April 3, 2022, he scored the winning goal in a big game against Rangers. This win put Celtic six points ahead in the league. He played 45 games that season. Celtic won the Scottish League Cup and the Scottish Premiership. Celtic also had the best defense in the league.
Because of his great performance, Carter-Vickers signed a permanent four-year deal with Celtic on June 10, 2022. He officially joined the club on July 1. On January 26, 2024, he signed a new contract with Celtic, keeping him at the club until 2029.
Playing for His Country
Youth Teams
In 2014, Cameron Carter-Vickers was playing for Tottenham's youth team in Florida. American coaches noticed him and learned that his father is an American citizen. This meant he could play for the United States.
He first played for the United States under-18 team in August 2014. By October, he was also part of the United States under-23 team. He played for the United States under-20 team in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He was only 17 but started several games. His team reached the quarter-finals.
Senior National Team
On November 6, 2016, Carter-Vickers was called up to the senior United States squad for the first time. He made his first game for the senior team on November 14, 2017. This was in a friendly match against Portugal.
In May 2022, he was called back to the national team after almost three years. He was chosen to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November 2022. He made his World Cup debut on November 29 against Iran.
How He Plays
Cameron Carter-Vickers is known as a "ball-playing" center-back. This means he is good at passing the ball accurately from defense. His strength and athletic ability are also very important parts of his game. A former teammate at Celtic, Carl Starfelt, once said that Cameron is the strongest player on the team, even though he rarely goes to the gym. He believed Cameron was naturally very strong.
Personal Life
Cameron Carter-Vickers' father is Howard Carter. Howard was a professional basketball player who played in the NBA and in Europe. He also became a French citizen. Cameron's mother, Geraldine Vickers, is English and is from Essex. His parents met while they were both working in Greece. Cameron grew up in Essex, England, and went to The Eastwood Academy. He spent his summers visiting his father in Louisiana, USA.
