Avisaíl García's Baseball Journey
Playing for the Detroit Tigers
Early Years and Big League Debut (2011–2012)
Avisaíl García joined the Detroit Tigers in 2007. He was invited to their spring training in 2011 and 2012. After the 2011 season, he was added to the Tigers' main team roster. In 2012, he was named the best minor league player for the Tigers.
He played his first major league game on August 31, 2012. He played very well, hitting for a .319 batting average in 23 games. He even made it onto the team for the playoffs! He played in the League Division Series, League Championship Series, and the 2012 World Series. In the postseason, he hit .261 with a double and four RBIs.
Avisaíl is known for looking a lot like his former teammate, Miguel Cabrera. Because of this, people sometimes call him "Little Miggy." Both players are tall, weigh about the same, bat right-handed, and are from Venezuela.
2013 Season with the Tigers
Avisaíl hoped to be on the Tigers' team at the start of the 2013 season. However, he had to go on the disabled list in March because of a heel injury. He joined the Tigers in May when another player, Austin Jackson, was injured. On May 15, Avisaíl hit his first home run in the major leagues.
Later in June, Avisaíl was sent to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens team. But he was called back to the Tigers just four days later. On July 7, 2013, while playing for the Toledo Mud Hens, Avisaíl achieved something special: he hit for the cycle! This means he hit a single, a double, a triple, and a home run all in the same game. In 2013, he batted .241 with the Tigers.
Moving to the Chicago White Sox
Joining the White Sox (2013–2014)
On July 30, 2013, Avisaíl García was traded to the Chicago White Sox. This was part of a big trade involving three teams. Avisaíl first played for the White Sox's minor league team, the Charlotte Knights. Between the Knights and the Toledo Mud Hens, he had the best batting average in the International League, hitting .374.
When the White Sox traded Alex Ríos on August 9, they brought Avisaíl up to the major league team. He played his first game with the White Sox on August 10 and got his first hit for the team.
On April 9, 2014, Avisaíl hurt his left shoulder while trying to catch a ball. Tests showed he had a torn labrum, which is a serious shoulder injury. He was placed on the disabled list for a long time. Even though many thought he would miss the whole season, Avisaíl recovered very quickly! He was back playing on August 16, 2014. He played in 46 games that year, hitting .244 with seven home runs.
Success and Challenges (2015–2018)
In 2015, Avisaíl played in 148 games. He hit .257 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs. In 2016, he played in 120 games due to injuries, hitting .245 with 12 home runs.
The year 2017 was a great one for Avisaíl. He had his best season, hitting for a .330 batting average. He also scored 75 runs, hit 18 home runs, and had 80 RBIs. Because of his excellent performance, Avisaíl was chosen for his first-ever All-Star Game. He was especially good at hitting against left-handed pitchers, with a .424 batting average against them.
In 2018, Avisaíl was again placed on the disabled list twice because of a hamstring injury. This limited him to playing in only 35 games in the first half of the season. For the whole season, he batted .236 with 19 home runs.

Joining the Miami Marlins
On December 1, 2021, Avisaíl García signed a four-year contract with the Miami Marlins. In 2022, he played in 98 games for the Marlins. He hit .224 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs.
