Ayah Marar's Early Life
Ayah Marar was born in Amman, Jordan, on September 20, 1980. Her father was Jordanian, and her mother was from Czech-Bulgaria. She spent most of her childhood and teenage years in Jordan. When she was 18, Ayah moved to the UK. This is where she started her exciting journey in music while studying at Warwick University.
Ayah Marar's Music Career
Ayah Marar is a big part of the drum and bass music scene. She recorded her very first song, 'Dance Child', with Loxy & Ink in 2004. After making several songs in this style, she met and started working with famous DJs Calvin Harris and Toddla T. Ayah even lived with Calvin Harris for a short time. She also traveled the world as part of his live shows. She sang on three songs for his second album and was a guest on Toddla T's album.
Ayah also worked at a record shop called Uptown Records in Soho, London. There, she met many people from radio and clubs. She helped start and run Lucky Devil Records. She also helped organize music events around London.
Ayah has written and sung on albums for many artists. These include Jack Penate, Bassline Smith, Calvin Harris, and DJ Fresh. Her music has been played on big radio stations like BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM, and BBC Radio 1Xtra. She has even been a guest host on radio shows. Her song 'Unstoppable' was chosen as the "Jam Hot Record of the Week."
Ayah decided to start her own music career as a solo artist. She created her own independent record label called "Hussle Girl." This label was a way for her to release her own songs and her album, "The Real." Her album The Real was released on October 15, 2012.
For four years, Ayah was a resident DJ at Herbal in Shoreditch. She also toured as an MC (which means she hosted events) with Hospital Records. She formed a funk band called SlinkyFix. They toured the UK and performed at events with famous DJs like Gilles Peterson. They also played at the Jazz Café.
Ayah performed with the Austrian drum and bass duo, Camo & Krooked, at places like Brixton Academy and all over Europe. In 2012, Ayah was touring her own songs with DJ Tenku. She worked with Calvin Harris again on his song "Thinking About You" in 2013.
