Ayatullah Durrani (born January 1, 1956 – died July 5, 2020) was a Pakistani politician. He served as a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan. He was also a Minister of State for Industries and Production.
Early Life and Education
Ayatullah Durrani was born in Pring Abad, a place in the Mastung District of Balochistan. His first language was Dehwari, which is a form of Persian.
He studied very hard and earned a PhD degree in Physics. Before becoming a well-known politician, he held many important roles:
- He was the President of the Peoples Students Federation in Kalat Division from 1974 to 1976.
- He also led the Peoples Students Federation in Balochistan from 1977 to 1984.
- He worked as an honorary lecturer in the Physics Department at the University of Balochistan from 1981 to 1988.
- He was an adviser to Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Balochistan affairs from 1989 to 1990.
- He was also involved in sports, serving as Joint Secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. He was also President of the Baseball Association in Balochistan.
Political Career
Ayatullah Durrani decided to run for the Parliament of Pakistan in the 2008 general elections. He ran from the area known as (NA-268) Kalat-cum-Mastung. He was a candidate for the Pakistan Peoples Party.
He won the elections and became a Member of the National Assembly. After his victory, he was given an important job as the Minister of State for Industries and Production. This meant he helped manage the industries and production of goods in Pakistan.
However, he lost his seat in the next general elections held in 2013.
Later Life and Passing
Ayatullah Durrani passed away on July 5, 2020. He died from COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan. He was at Fatima Jinnah General and Chest Hospital in Quetta. Just five days before he died, he had tested positive for the Coronavirus and was on a ventilator.
