Muhammad Ayub Khan (born May 14, 1907 – died April 19, 1974) was an important military leader and politician in Pakistan. He was a general in the Pakistan Army. He later became the second President of Pakistan. He led the country from 1958 to 1969.
Ayub Khan was the first Pakistani to become the Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Army in 1951. He was also the youngest general to hold such a high rank in Pakistan's military history.

Becoming President of Pakistan
Ayub Khan became president in 1958. This happened after a military takeover that did not involve violence. He took control of the government and declared martial law. This meant the military was in charge of the country.
Leading the Country
As president, Ayub Khan made many changes. He worked on developing Pakistan's economy. He also focused on improving the country's defense. His time as president saw some growth in industries and farming.
The 1965 Election
In 1965, there was a presidential election. Ayub Khan ran against Fatima Jinnah, who was a very respected leader. Many people believed there were problems with how the election was run. They thought the results might not have been fair.
End of His Rule
Ayub Khan's presidency ended in 1969. There were growing protests and unrest in the country. Because of these challenges, he stepped down from power. He handed over control to another general, Yahya Khan.
