Bárbara of Portugal (born December 4, 1711 – died August 27, 1758) was a Portuguese princess. She became the Queen consort of Spain. Her parents were King John V of Portugal and Maria Anna of Austria.
She was born in Lisbon, Portugal. Her full name was very long. But she was usually called Bárbara or Maria Bárbara. This was to honor Saint Barbara, whose feast day was on her birthday.
Bárbara received an excellent education. She loved music very much. She could speak six different languages. She also studied music for many years. Her teacher was Domenico Scarlatti. He was a famous Italian harpsichord player and composer.
In 1729, when she was 18, she married. She married the person who would become King Ferdinand VI of Spain. Their wedding took place in Badajoz, Spain. They did not have any children together. Bárbara died on August 27, 1758, in Aranjuez, Spain.
A city in the Dominican Republic was named after her. This city is called Santa Bárbara de Samaná. It was founded in 1756.
