Discovering Baileys Creek

Baileys Creek starts its journey in Osage County. The very beginning of a stream is called its headwaters. For Baileys Creek, these headwaters are found just east of Missouri Route 89 and north of a place called Mint Hill.

Where Does It Flow?

When it first begins, Baileys Creek flows towards the southeast for about three miles. After this initial stretch, it makes a turn and starts flowing mainly towards the northeast. The stream then winds and curves, or "meanders," generally following alongside Missouri Route N.

Its journey continues until it reaches the wide Missouri River Valley. Here, it flows under Missouri Route 100 near the town of Morrison. Finally, Baileys Creek meets and joins the mighty Missouri River. This meeting point, where two streams or rivers come together, is called a confluence. For Baileys Creek, this happens about three miles northwest of Gasconade.

What's in a Name?

Baileys Creek got its name from a local family known as the Bailey family, who lived in the area a long time ago. Sometimes, streams and rivers have had different names throughout history. For Baileys Creek, some old names included Deer Creek and Shawnee Creek.
