Bannock Creek is a river located in the state of Idaho in the United States. It is about 67 miles (108 kilometers) long. This creek is a tributary of the much larger Snake River. A tributary is a smaller river or stream that flows into a bigger one.

About Bannock Creek

Bannock Creek starts high up in the mountains, about 5,953 feet (1,814 meters) above sea level. Its journey begins north of a town called Holbrook in Oneida County. From there, it flows mostly north.

Where Bannock Creek Flows

As Bannock Creek travels, it moves into Power County. It passes through a wide, flat area known as the Arbon Valley. The creek also flows past the small town of Pauline. A significant part of its path goes through the Fort Hall Indian Reservation.

The End of the Journey

Bannock Creek eventually reaches its end at the American Falls Reservoir. This reservoir is a large lake formed by a dam on the Snake River. The mouth of Bannock Creek is located between the towns of American Falls and Pocatello. At this point, the creek is about 4,357 feet (1,328 meters) above sea level.

What is a Watershed?

Every river has a watershed, which is also called a drainage basin. A watershed is an area of land where all the water, like rain or melting snow, drains into a specific river or stream. For Bannock Creek, its watershed covers about 475 square miles (1,230 square kilometers). This means all the water that falls in this large area eventually flows into Bannock Creek.
