Barbee Lake is a beautiful fresh water lake found in Warsaw, Indiana, United States. It's part of a group of seven connected lakes.

These lakes were created a very long time ago by giant sheets of ice called glaciers. As the glaciers slowly moved and then melted, they carved out the land, forming many lakes in northeast Indiana, including the Barbee chain.

Where is Barbee Lake Located?

The Barbee lakes are found in Indiana. They are about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Tippecanoe Lake. You can find them west of Indiana State Road 13.

Discover the Barbee Lake Chain

Barbee Lake is the biggest of seven natural lakes that are all connected. This group is known as the Barbee Lakes chain. Each lake has its own size:

  • Barbee Lake is about 304 acres (123 ha)
  • Little Barbee Lake is about 74 acres (30 ha)
  • Kuhn Lake is about 137 acres (55 ha)
  • Irish Lake is about 182 acres (74 ha)
  • Sawmill Lake is about 36 acres (15 ha)
  • Sechrist Lake is about 105 acres (42 ha)
  • Banning Lake is about 17 acres (6.9 ha)

How Water Flows In and Out

Water flows into the Barbee lakes from different streams. Grassy Creek feeds Barbee (also called Big Barbee), Little Barbee, Irish, and Sawmill lakes.

Shoe Lake sends water into Banning Lake. Heron Lake flows into Kuhn Lake. Banning and Kuhn Lakes often have the cleanest water. This is because less farmland drains into them.

All the water from the Barbee chain eventually flows north. It then feeds into the larger Tippecanoe Lake.

Homes Around the Lakes

Many people live around the Barbee chain of lakes. There are about 2,300 homes spread out along the shores.

The most homes are found near the north end of Barbee Lake. You'll also see many houses around Sechrist Lake and Little Barbee Lake.

Fun Things to Do: Recreation and Fishing

The Barbee lakes are a great place for outdoor fun! All seven lakes are home to many types of fish.

You can find bluegill, largemouth bass, yellow perch, catfish, and crappie here. Fishing is a popular activity for visitors and residents.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources helps people enjoy the lakes. They have a boat ramp on the north side of Kuhn Lake. This makes it easy to launch your boat.

If you have a boat 16 feet (4.9 m) or shorter, you can even get to Tippecanoe Lake. There's a special lock that you can operate by hand to move between the lakes.
