Bartica is a busy town in Guyana. It sits on the left side of the Essequibo River. This is where the Cuyuni and Mazaruni Rivers meet the Essequibo. Bartica is the main town for the Cuyuni-Mazaruni region (Region 7).
Many people call Bartica the "Gateway to the Interior." In 2012, about 8,004 people lived here. It is a starting point for those who work in the wild areas, looking for gold and diamonds.

History of Bartica
Bartica began as a settlement for Anglican missionaries. It was set up in 1837 and officially recognized in 1843. The name Bartica comes from a local word. It means "red earth," which is a type of soil found a lot in the area.

Bartica has several schools for young people. There are two secondary schools: Bartica Secondary and Three Miles Secondary. For younger students, there are three primary schools: St. Anthony's Primary, St. John-the-Baptist, and Two Miles Primary. Other primary schools are also found in nearby river communities.

The Bartica Airport is about 6 kilometers (4 miles) southwest of the town. North of Bartica, you can find the old ruins of a Dutch fort called Kyk-Over-Al. This fort used to be the government center for the Essequibo area. Bartica is also near the beautiful Marshall Falls.

Bartica Regatta Festival
Every year during the Easter weekend, Bartica hosts the Bartica Regatta. This is a big festival with lots of fun activities. You can watch exciting water sports, especially speed boat races. There are also games like cricket, boxing, and soccer. The festival includes talent shows, a street parade, and a Miss Bartica Regatta Pageant. People from all over Guyana and even other countries come to enjoy the Regatta. There is also a summer Regatta held every August.
